  1. Short:    SmartUUCP added to V1.17 Amiga-UUCP

  5. I'm offering here, for anyone interested, my patched version of
  6. sendmail/rmail (version V1.17-beta.31{ask@castrov.UUCP/10} Aug 07 1994).

  8. The main motivation for the changes was to comply with the strong 
  9. "SmartUUCP" requirements of my local domain.  These requirements go 
  10. beyond the initial "SmartUUCP" implementation in sendmail 1.17.31.
  11.  
  12. At the same time a few other enhancements were made.  A new concept
  13. in config variables is introduced.  "Host-specific" variables are
  14. of the form "Host-xxx-variable".  They are used in in preference
  15. of the ordinary "host-non-specific" variables when doing work for
  16. the system specified in "xxx".  Sendmail uses two host-specific
  17. variables: Host-xxx-SmartUUCP and Host-xxx-MaxRMailLen.

  19. Changes:

  22. *  When sending a message to a "SmartUUCP" neighbor, generate the Envelope 
  23.    "rmail " addresses in @-format rather than !-format.  This is required 
  24.    by some "SmartUUCP" sites.
  25.  
  26. * Support per-host config variables for the SmartUUCP flag of the form 
  27.   Host-xxx-SmartUUCP, where xxx is the neighbor.  Translate messages to 
  28.   and from "SmartUUCP"-format, so we can act as a bridge between the often 
  29.   incompatible worlds.
  30.  
  31. * Support per-host config variables for the MaxRMailLen value of the form 
  32.   Host-xxx-MaxRMailLen, where xxx is the neighbor.  Each neighbor can have 
  33.   a value tuned to their limitations rather than being restricted to the 
  34.   smallest value of all neighbors.
  35.  
  36. * Be more efficient about packing addressess onto the rmail line.  We used 
  37.   to send off messages to *all* neighbors as soon as the accumulation of 
  38.   addresses for *one* neighbor was full.
  39.  
  40. * Tell UUX if we are running as "postmaster".  This will appear in the 
  41.   remote system's uulib:logfile.
  42.  
  43. * Record the SUBVERSION in the Received: line, for easier reporting of bugs.
